Permanent Residency (PR) is the status that allows a person to live, work, and study anywhere in Canada on a long-term basis. Permanent residents enjoy many of the same rights as Canadian citizens, including access to healthcare and social benefits, but they are not allowed to vote or hold certain government jobs. After meeting residency requirements, permanent residents may be eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship.
